Judy from Farm Bureau came to visit the fourth grade classroom recently to help kick off reading month. She read to the students and did an activity where they planted bean and zucchini seeds in a wet cotton ball and put it in a little Ziploc bag. When the seeds sprouted, the fourth graders decided to plant them in dirt to see if they will grow. When they went into the greenhouse, they found some peppers and tomatoes from last year. Miss Marttila explained how often volunteer tomato plants come up in her garden from tomatoes that were rotten or too small from the previous year. They decided to plant the tomato and pepper seeds to see if they’ll grow too.

The fourth graders went out snowshoeing for the first time this winter. Since the fresh snow is still so powdery and deep, they took turns breaking trail. They also packed down part of the course for the hardy cross country runners who are still doing their daily run. It was a fun but tiring time!
